Challenge Bibendum 2004

Challenge Bibendum 2004 rolls into the Shanghai International Circuit in China, October 12-14, to showcase the auto industry's progress with environmentally friendly technologies. This is the first time Michelin's premier environmental vehicle event will be held in Asia, reflecting China's impressive economic growth and its emergence as the world's third largest auto producer. More than 100 vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, busses, and, for the first time this year, two-wheeled vehicles will engage in competition that includes tests on noise, emission, energy efficiency, acceleration and handling. In addition, the event will feature roundtables, test drives, and an international symposium to review major avenues of development in the field of sustainable road mobility.

A high-level international symposium will be held for the first time as part of Challenge Bibendum in Shanghai on October 14th.

It will provide a platform for leading automakers, universities, research institutes and policy makers from China, EU, USA and Japan to discuss international approaches, regulations and the next steps of how to set a clean and sustainable auto industry. Local and international media will be invited to the symposium.
Topics to be discussed in the symposium include:

  • Thirty year outlook - Worldwide mobility issues
  • China's way to sustainable road mobility: Dilemmas and expectations
  • Challenge Bibendum 2004 teachings
  • Sustainable road mobility: global hurdles to overcome - introduction to workshops
  • During the following sessions, the symposium will be divided into six parallel workshops.

Three workshops on Sustainable Transportation Concepts:

  • advanced Internal Combustion Engine and Hybrid Electric vehicles.
  • advanced battery and fuel cell Electric Vehicles.
  • advanced transportation and safety systems.

Three workshops on Sustainable Energy Concepts:

  • fossil fuels
  • biofuels
